What is the Best-Selling Truck in the United States in 2024?

As of July 3, 2024, Ford saw tremendous growth in its United States sales across numerous automotive segments, including trucks, electric vehicles, hybrids, and vans. The brand’s F-Series remains the best-selling pickup truck lineup in America, surpassing rivals such as Ram and Silverado by significant margins. Along similar lines, Ford’s Maverick and Maverick Hybrid also set new records for the first half of the 2024 model year.

Indeed, Ford’s hybrid vehicle sales surged by 56 percent, reaching a new quarterly record of 53,822 units. The Maverick Hybrid leads this segment with 40,420 units sold in the first half of the year (2024). It is worth noting that approximately 60 percent of Maverick Hybrid owners are changing from other brands, often trading in compact cars and small SUVs for this inexpensive midsize pickup truck.

That said, the F-150 Hybrid follows closely with 33,674 units sold through June 2024, indicating a 38 percent increase. This model equaled 20 percent of non-electric vehicle F-150 sales for the second quarter (2024). Ford’s varied powertrain lineup offers hybrid, gasoline, and electric options that no contender can compete with.

Electric Vehicle Sales

Ford’s electric vehicle sales increased by 61 percent in Q2 with 23,957 units sold. For the first half of the year (2024), total electric vehicle sales reached 44,180 units. Part of these gains are attributed to the popularity of the Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning. These automobiles are attracting new customers to Ford. For example, 54 percent of Mustang Mach-E buyers and 62 percent of F-150 Lightning buyers are new to the brand.

Additionally, the Mustang Mach-E rose by 46 percent in Q2 sales compared to last year (2023) and delivered its best performance since debuting with a 58 percent increase in year-to-date sales. The F-150 Lightning remains America’s top-selling electric pickup with 15,645 units sold through June 2024.

Van Growth Engine

Ford Transit continues to prevail as America’s best-selling van, posting a record first half with 82,164 units sold, representing an uptick of 28 percent. Together with E-Series vans, they contributed to half of the full-size commercial van sector in Q2 (2024). Moreover, Ford Pro Intelligence software subscriptions have grown by roughly 33 percent since the 2023 model year. The E-Transit also did well, with first-half sales more than doubling compared to last year (2023). This electric van marked a 96 percent increase in Q2 (2024) sales alone.

SUVs and Customer Services Receive a Boost

Ford-brand SUVs achieved a record-breaking first half with sales up by three percent to 406,467 units. The Explorer led this category as America’s top-selling three-row SUV with 104,803 units sold. Expedition and Escape models also experienced increases in their respective segments.

Notably, Ford dealers have amplified their remote service offerings substantially. In the first six months of 2024 alone, there were 1.8 million Remote Service appointments, a remarkable increase of 175 percent compared to the same period in 2023.

“From the urban customer who wants the capability of a small pickup like Maverick to the businesses that rely on Transit vans to help drive the American economy, the distinctive Ford lineup is resonating with customers. Hybrid and electric vehicles are driving growth, as are post-purchase experiences, like BlueCruise hands-free highway driving, the Ford Pro Intelligence software platform and remote vehicle servicing options.”

–Andrew Frick, president, Ford Blue

Total vehicle sales for Ford increased by one percent year-over-year in Q2 of 2024, while total truck sales rose five percent compared to last year (2023). These statistics signal Ford’s best Q2 pickup truck performance since 2019.
