Ford Bronco Not Only Goes Over Landscapes, But Also Protects Them

On June 28th, 2023, the Ford Motor Company made a generous donation to Bandelier National Monument by offering a 2023 Ford Bronco as a “Wildland Firefighting Command Rig.” This vehicle, outfitted with enhanced technology and features, will be used by the National Parks Service for numerous purposes associated with disaster relief efforts and fire response. This donation is part of Ford’s commitment to supporting power supply, emergency transportation, and delivery of essential goods in times of need.

Dave Rivers, Ford Enthusiast Brand Manager, expressed the brand’s dedication to supporting fire response and disaster relief efforts: “For more than a century Ford has supported fire response and disaster relief efforts by deploying vehicles to provide emergency transportation and power and deliver essential goods. Ribbon-Cutting Event

The official handover of the Bronco Wildland Firefighting Command Rig to the National Park Service took place at a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Bandelier National Monument. In October of that year (2020), they presented the Bronco + Filson Wildland Fire Rig concept. This innovative automobile was outfitted with crucial firefighting equipment, including axes, a 50-gallon water tank, a chainsaw, a high-pressure pump and hose, and more. However, the current Wildland Firefighting Command Rig goes beyond being a firefighter’s go-kit; it serves as a complex command center on wheels.

The Technology that Fortifies the Rig

To clarify, the Wildland Firefighting Command Rig is set up with a government communication system that incorporates terrestrial and satellite connections. This ensures seamless communication even in remote areas. Dave Rivers offers further detail about these solutions that solidify the effectiveness of the manufacturer’s operations: “The Bronco wildland firefighting command rig is like the ultimate communications hub with G.O.A.T. modes. It’s a four-door mountain goat made to carry firefighting rangers so they can quickly coordinate where emergency units need to be.” 

In addition, the automobile comes with a drone, capable of capturing live video footage that can be broadcast on the built-in screen and tablet. The rig also features beadlock wheels, a custom grille guard, a roof rack with several lights, a factory-installed Warn winch, and a siren.

As a matter of fact, Darley, the company responsible for up-fitting vehicles for numerous organizations, is constructing two Ford Bronco SUVs for donation. The second Bronco will be given to another wildland firefighting agency, which has yet to be named. Both vehicles are being donated through Ford’s Bronco Wild Fund, aiming to maximize preservation, access, and stewardship of public lands in the United States.
