On January 4, 2024, the awards for the 2024 Car, Truck, and Utility of the Year from the jury at NACTOY (North American Car, Truck, and Utility of the Year) were announced. The three winning vehicles all benefit from different approaches to their powertrains, reflecting the times and current diversity of the market. That said, a Louisville-made Ford picked up a prestigious honor. The Ford F-Series Super Duty was named the 2024 North American Truck of the Year during a news conference in Pontiac, Michigan, hosted by the Detroit Auto Dealers Association and Automotive Press Association. The truck is assembled at Ford’s Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville and Ohio Assembly Plant near Cleveland.
How the Assessment Took Place
The jurors are respected figures in the automotive realm, representing diverse online, print, and broadcast media outlets across Canada and the United States. The evaluation criteria employed by the jurors incorporated design, driver satisfaction, outstanding innovation, value, and performance. Each juror assessed the contenders in their unique manner, reflecting the vast perspectives and expertise within the automotive journalism community. Consequently, being named a NACTOY winner is regarded as an illustrious accomplishment, and emerging as a winner in any of the categories is considered a pinnacle feat within the highly competitive and dynamic automotive landscape.
As mentioned, Ford secured a “fourpeat” with the all-new Super Duty taking home the 2024 North American Truck of the Year Award. The 2024 Ford F-Series Super Duty locks up the fourth straight NACTOY for the Blue Oval in the ever-competitive pickup category. In the 2023 model year, the F-150 Lightning became the first electric pickup truck to score top honors. Ford also took home the prize in 2021 and 2022 thanks to the F-150 and the Maverick, respectively. As such, combined with honors for the Mustang Mach-E and the Bronco, Ford has claimed half of all NACTOY awards in the past four years.
First-Class Characteristics of the Super Duty
Andrew Kernahan, the chief program engineer for the new Super Duty, describes the arduous process involved with achieving the accomplishment: “We are so proud that Super Duty has earned the prestigious Truck of the Year award from the NACTOY jury, especially among a strong lineup of other finalists.” He added, “It represents the relentless dedication our teams have to our customers and endless hours they’ve poured into designing, engineering and building Super Duty pickups and chassis cabs to be the ultimate BUILT FORD TOUGH tool for work and recreation.”
The 2024 Ford Super Duty is the most powerful, capable, and advanced yet. Among its class-leading notables: 40,000 pounds of maximum towing, 8,000 pounds of maximum payload, and a high-output Power Stroke turbo-diesel that generates 1,200 pound-feet of torque. Additionally, it is the first truck in North America to offer a 5G modem standard, and it is available with Pro Power Onboard. Ford’s fourth North American Truck of the Year title comes at the expense of the Chevrolet Colorado and the Chevrolet Silverado EV. It secured 189 total votes from jurors and praise from the panel. It is also worth noting that in late December 2023, Ford announced that the F-Series–which includes the Super Duty and the F-150–is America’s best-selling truck for the 47th year in a row.
