The 2024 Ford Bronco Raptor Overshadows Rivals with the Black Appearance Package

On April 8, 2024, Ford selected an incredibly rare astronomical event to debut the 2024 Ford Bronco Raptor Black Appearance Package. The unveiling occurred under the shade of a total solar eclipse at the Bronco Off-Roadeo Texas near Austin, where fans of the legendary SUV get the opportunity to learn off-roading from experts. There are few complaints anyone can level at the striking Ford Bronco Raptor, powered as it is by a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 engine that accelerates up to 418 horsepower and is equipped with a remarkable, off-road-focused powertrain and suspension. Indeed, it is unlikely that anyone would ever refer to a Bronco Raptor as subtle, but this new Black Appearance Package makes it an even more distinctive rig.

Design Details

Matte black finishes dominate on the skid plate, steel bumper, and tow hooks – all serving as menacing reminders of the terrain this beast can tame. Elsewhere, Shadow Black paint prevails on the mirror caps, fender flares, and removable roof. Additionally, if the top is removed, the roll bar is painted the same Shadow Black. Fender and hood decals are also part of the package. It is worth noting that all components are supposed to be the same shade of black, but they can appear to be unpainted plastic on existing Bronco Raptor SUVs, at least in certain lighting conditions. 

Jason Hyde, Bronco Brand Manager, elaborated on the eye-catching appeal of the vehicle, stating, “Customers choose Bronco Raptor for two reasons: its high-performance off-road capability and its distinctive appearance.” He added, “The Black Appearance gives them a look that stands out on any trail and under any sky, even a total solar eclipse.”

Consumer Influence

As mentioned, on the docket with this package are a matte black skid plate, steel bumper, and tow hooks. Apparently, current owners of the Bronco Raptor have been painting that underbody protection themselves, so this can be interpreted as either Ford listening to customer input or taking inspiration from the aftermarket. In honor of the solar event, the Bronco Raptor Black Appearance Package will be available to order by the end of April 2024 for an additional $4,995 MSRP on any 2024 Ford Bronco Raptor. That said, over a hundred current Bronco owners got the chance to see it on April 8, 2024, before anyone else at the Bronco Off-Roadeo school, and a few adamant owners were likely prepared to throw down a deposit on the spot.

Of note, Henry Ford’s dedication to production efficiency led the original Model T to eventually be available only in black paint for a time. He famously did not want to shut the assembly line down to change out paint colors, leading to his famous quote that the Model T was available in “any color the customer wants, as long as it’s black.” Today, times have changed, and even though the Black Appearance Package is an optional choice for the 2024 Ford Bronco Raptor, it can be added to any base paint hue. 

The vehicle can be paired with a wide array of colors, outshining most manufacturers that have historically only offered this gear on grayscale machines. For example, while the Velocity Blue Metallic is an alluring color, the blacked-out fenders, graphics, and roof of the SUV would look equally stunning set against the military-inspired Shelter Green. Moreover, the Black Appearance Package follows the vibrant Code Orange package introduced in the 2023 model year.
