The new seventh-generation Mustang gives rise to the Dark Horse, receiving the name for its understated, dark design. More details were released at the Chicago Auto Show in February 2023. The vehicle will live up to its name, as Ford provides numerous exclusive materials and accessories for its new Mustang Dark Horse trim. For example, its all-new lightweight, anodized blue titanium manual shift knob is unique to the Mustang Dark Horse interior. Ford explained that the lightweight six-speed knob is hollow and does not get as scorchingly hot to the touch as similar aluminum knobs in warmer climates. Anodized silver paddle shifters will go along with the 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission on the automatic trim.
Mustang Dark Horse also highlights a flat-bottomed steering wheel enveloped in performance suede for additional grip, while contrasting Bright Indigo Blue stitching increases detail throughout the seats, the center console trim and lid, the instrument and door panels, and the gear shift boot, according to designers. Furthermore, steering wheel buttons will regulate particular sports cars’ functions, such as the instrument cluster, the drive mode selection, and the 13.2-inch SYNC 4 center stack. There is also an available electronic drift brake – an ideal addition for those high-octane enthusiasts – that is leather-bound and presents an anodized lever with a specific action to assist the driver in modulating the rear wheels to a full lock. At the same time, in track mode for sideways movement, the automaker elaborated.
The Appearance Package
In addition to the aforementioned stylistic designations, there is an available design setup called the Mustang Dark Horse Appearance Package that incorporates distinctively bolstered RECARO performance seats that draw particular attention to exclusive Deep Indigo Blue bolsters embellished with Bright Indigo Blue accent stitching, including black Dinamica suede in the seat’s center for enhanced lateral grip. The blue motif is completed with deep Indigo Blue seatbelts and original seat perforations with blue accents underneath the seating surface.
Moreover, the design team came up with cutting-edge color and trim surface selections, with the vents and bezels finished in Black Alley. This dusky metallic gloss takes the place of the typical bright silver hues found in other Mustang trim levels. Each Mustang Dark Horse also conveniently integrates an instrument panel badge that contains the muscle car’s chassis number.
Brand New Paint Conveys Greater Athleticism
The Blue Oval’s latest ride will be available with the all-new Blue Ember metallic paint, a splash of color that is characterized by innovative, unique effect pigments of deep blues suffused with a warm amber shade to grant the exterior paint a supremely dramatic color transition when shifting in different angles and lights. The color-changing paint is a throwback from the past. The brand offered the color-shifting Mystichrome briefly on the 2004 SVT Cobra.
As expounded upon by Carrie Kennerly, Ford’s senior color and materials designer, “If color is a reflection of a vehicle’s personality, Blue Ember transforms the Mustang Dark Horse and highlights a natural saddle-color horse hidden inside the strong chiseled fastback’s exterior form. Multiple elements are combined to give Blue Ember its intriguing and stealthy appearance that really drives home how unique Mustang Dark Horse is.” To emphasize the sports car’s rather mysterious, aggressive aesthetic, vinyl and even hand-painted graphics develop visual languages that masterfully give prominence to the Mustang Dark Horse’s performance.
