Though there was a lot of speculation on what the trademark Ford filed for the “Mustang Dark Horse” could be about, fans and enthusiasts finally have the answer! Coming to expand the lineup while, at the same time, setting the benchmark for American street and track performance that only a Mustang can do is a new sinister-looking and uniquely modified 5.0-liter V8 Mustang – The Mustang Dark Horse. 

It will come to be known as a considerable powerhouse as it will be home to the most powerful 5.0-liter V8 ever, projecting 500 horsepower. A dedicated team of designers, Ford engineers, and experts worked tirelessly for over three years to develop the Mustang Dark Horse. It is through that dedication and care that the new Dark Horse will be able to offer street and track-capable performance with stunning visual cues and all the capabilities that sports car lovers and Mustang fans expect.

Since 2001 when the Mustang Bullitt came about, a new performance name and a new vehicle have not come to be until now with the all-new Mustang Dark Horse. Jim Farley, CEO of Ford Motor Company, stated this regarding the ‘24 Mustang “For decades, Mustang has competed against the most premium brands on the greatest world stages and won. We surprised everyone, and we’re going to surprise them again with a track-capable Mustang that puts a new level of performance, styling, and American engineering in the hands of everyday customers who still want the thrill and excitement of a V8 sports car.”

About the Mustang Dark Horse

The Mustang Dark Horse will illustrate how it was able to instill more performance style and functionality than ever seen before through the all-new seventh-gen diver-centric cockpit. A few features to look out for include the following:

• The most up-to-date B&O® Sound System.
• Black Alley (a dark metallic gloss) will replace the familiar silver shades on the interior trim, vents, and bezels.
• New Dark Horse Badges
• The 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster is packed with customizable screens that house myriad driving modes.
• Juxtaposing blue stitching lines the door panels and seats.
• Unique blue seatbelts.
• A dedicated drive mode button
• A chunkier, flat-bottomed steering wheel wrapped in suede (finished with the iconic Bright Indigo Blue accent stitching)
• Anodized silver paddle shifters (featured on vehicles that have the 10-speed automatic transmission)

Customers can always opt-in to add the Mustang Dark Horse Appearance Package, which will enhance the vehicle even further with Deep Indigo Blue seats that have a unique seat perforation, adding to the mysterious feeling it was made to instill.

Ed Krenz, Ford Mustang chief nameplate engineer, had this to say about the brand new engine that will power the Mustang Dark Horse “We’ve taken the all-new Mustang, the best of our new 5.0-liter V8 performance, and added power, improved the aero, tires, steering and provided an interactive cockpit to create a Mustang that goes beyond any 5.0-liter Mustang before it.” Since the all-new 2024 Mustang is the foundation for the Mustang Dark Horse, enthusiasts can expect some incredible transformations like new engines, a digitally immersive cockpit, and styling to add to the iconic performance that one can only get with the Ford Mustang. 

The particular 5.0-liter Coyote V8 engine has been uniquely modified with piston connecting rods that were first introduced in the 760-horsepower Ford Performance Mustang Shelby GT500. This means that enthusiasts can expect power and that the Mustang Dark Horse will be capable of delivering the highest level of athletic performance ever seen within the brand-new Mustang family lineup. The Mustang Dark Horse will be one of the most unique and beautiful vehicles that will grace the automotive market for the 2023 model year.
