Is Ford Working on a Mystery Electric Truck?

Ford continues to shine through, proving its power and capability to fans and car enthusiasts alike with every vehicle it has lined up. Now that Ford has made its thunder-clapping debut with the Ford F-150 Lightning, the Automotive Giant is developing a new electric truck that will likely hit the market sometime around 2025, according to Automotive News. As of now, there aren’t many details available to the public right now, so it is said that the new EV truck will sit alongside an electric Ford Explorer, the Ford Mustang Mach-E, and the all-new Ford F-150 Lightning. This new lineup will fill out Ford’s electric family by the mid-point of the decade.

 Ford CEO Jim Farley first teased the new electric truck in April, saying it would be built at the company’s upcoming Blue Oval City campus in Tennessee. Farley stated that it would be an “all-new” nameplate, not a refreshed or redesigned Ford F-150 Lightning, and it would help propel Ford forward as a leader in electric trucks. It’s a huge step forward within the automotive industry for Ford to introduce a new nameplate instead of electrifying an existing product like the Maverick and the Bronco.

The Automotive News report goes through Ford’s plans to launch production of a new all-electric Ford Explorer SUV before the end of the 2024 model year. According to Automotive News, the Oakville facility, where the gas-powered Ford Edge and Lincoln Nautilus are built, is currently in the process of being converted to a plant that will only produce EVs. This means that Explorer electric vehicle will be assembled at the company’s factory in Oakville, Ontario.

The new Ford Explorer EV is projected to go on sale at the beginning of 2025. CEO Jim Farley has also teased all-electric versions of the all-new Maverick compact pickup truck and Bronco SUV. Ford will also likely produce a hybrid version of the Bronco first, especially with hybrid versions of the Bronco Sport and Ranger pickup truck. Ford has mentioned that the company wants to be “the clear No. 2 electric vehicle maker in North America within the next couple years and then challenge for No. 1”. The Ford brand is definitely on its way to making that goal a reality.
