What is a Stroppe Bronco?

The 2021 Ford Bronco, a highly anticipated revival of the iconic off-roader, immediately captured the hearts of enthusiasts with its classic design elements. However, Ford hasn’t rested on its laurels, consistently pushing the boundaries of retro-themed special editions. Earlier this year (2024), the brand introduced the Free Wheeling Bronco Sport package, further expanding its nostalgic offerings. Now, it unveiled the Bronco Stroppe Edition, exclusively available in a two-door configuration and a substitute for the Wildtrak trim in the Bronco lineup.

For context, this new model pays tribute to Bill Stroppe, a legendary figure in off-road racing. Stroppe’s modifications to the original Bronco played a crucial role in establishing the vehicle’s reputation as a formidable competitor. His achievements include a historic victory at the Baja 1000 in 1969, where he piloted a stock 4×4 to the overall win. Stroppe’s impact on Ford’s racing history is reinforced by his collaboration with renowned racing driver Parnelli Jones.

Ford has sought to revive the Stroppe legacy in recent times.

“We’ve been hinting at the return of a Bronco Stroppe Special Edition with our competition Broncos since returning to the Baja 1000 with the Bronco R in 2020. That combination of Code Orange, Oxford White, and Atlas Blue, and matte black was chosen very deliberately on our race vehicles. It’s an iconic design and the history behind it is so important to the modern Bronco.”

–Gordon Platto, Ford’s North American Design Director

The 2025 Bronco Stroppe is the most recent addition to the Stroppe tradition, designed to provide exceptional off-road performance for contemporary enthusiasts.

Ford Bronco Stroppe’s High-Octane Driving

The 2025 Bronco Stroppe Special Edition, an SUV built for desert racing, fuses engineering and advanced technology. Its performance highlights include:

  • EcoBoost 2.7-Liter V-6 Engine:

The SUV is outfitted with a standard EcoBoost powertrain. The engine is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and employs a four-wheel-drive system with part-time selectable engagement. This combination allows the vehicle to generate 330 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. As such, the Bronco excels on challenging off-road terrain and paved roads alike.

  • Baja G.O.A.T. Mode:

Inspired by the original Bronco’s “Goes Over Any Terrain” ethos, this mode tunes the automobile’s systems for desert racing, offering increased traction, sharper throttle response, and improved off-road control.

  • Fox Internal Bypass Dampers:

These dampers provide excellent stability and control at high speeds in the desert, guaranteeing a comfortable ride even on rough surfaces.

Equipped with the High-Performance Off-Road Stability Suspension 3.0 (HOSS 3.0) and rugged 35-inch Goodyear Territory RT tires, this special edition is designed to conquer the most demanding off-road terrain. The Stabilizer Bar Disconnect system further improves the Bronco’s agility on steep inclines and rocky trails.
